MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS / CATEGORIES

All prospective members of HRABC must first be a member in good standing of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the largest professional society in the world dedicated exclusively to human resource management. The Board of Governors approves each application for membership. Determination of classification for membership is at the discretion of the Board, based on the requirements set forth in the chapter bylaws.

Professional Membership: Individuals engaged in human resource management with at least three years of experience at the exempt level; or any individual certified by the Human Resource Certification Institute; or any faculty member with three or more years of experience holding assistant, associate or full professorial rank in Human Resources management; or full-time consultants with at least three years as an exempt level Human Resources Practitioner; or full time attorneys with at least three years in counseling and advising clients on matters relating to the HR profession. Professional members have voting rights and may hold office in the association.

General Membership: Individuals engaged in human resource management at the exempt level but do not meet the requirements for Professional member. General members have voting rights but may not hold office in the Association.

Associate Membership: Individuals in non-exempt HR Management, students or individuals who do not meet any of the foregoing categories, but have a bona fide interest in Human Resources. Associate members do not have voting rights and may not hold office in the Association.

Student Membership: Individuals who are students and are members of a student chapter affiliated with the Association. They do not have voting rights and may not hold office in the association. When no student chapter exists, students may join as student members provided they meet the following: are a current SHRM student member, are currently enrolled in the equivalent of at least six(6) credit hours, have designated HRABC as their primary chapter, and do not meet the qualifications for professional membership. There shall be no annual dues for this class of membership in HRABC.

Life Membership: Individuals qualifying as life members may, upon approval of the Board of Governors, be admitted to Life Membership in the Association, in one of the following classes:

Retired life members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of membership in HRABC, but may not vote or hold office. There shall be no annual dues for this class of membership in HRABC.

These members will be exempt from paying dues to HRABC and retain their voting rights as long as they continue to keep their SHRM membership current. Current board members and immediate past presidents are not eligible. Nominations of Hall of Fame Members are made by a committee comprised of the current hall of fame members and chaired by the most recent inductee.

Past President: Life Membership will be conferred on each Past President in appreciation of service and leadership to the Association. Life Membership will begin for the former Past President once they are no longer on the Board. In order to maintain this designation, they must continue to hold current membership in SHRM and designate HRABC as their primary chapter. Past President membership shall be entitled to all privileges of Professional Members. There shall be no annual HRABC dues for this class of membership in HRABC.
